POLISHED CONCRETE

POLISHING STEPS

Job Walk

Polishing

Walking the job is the best way to evaluate the subtrate. Visible joints, cracks & spalls help undertand what the installers challenges may be. Moisture marks and visible floor covering can be expressed to the customer to set expectations.

Grind

The initial cut is done by grinding with metal bond diamond to profile and remove the cap of the concrete. Tool selection is important due to the hardness of the concrete.

Patch work on cracks & spalls is highly recommended on this step.

Hone

The honing stage is performed by removing scratch patterns by utilizing transitional tools such as ceramics or copper bond diamonds up to 200 grit. The hone look provides a matte to satin sheen. In most cases, this stage is where densifier is applied before proceeding to the polishing step.

Polish

The polishing stage is performed at 400 grit and high. Typically 800 grit is the most common final step, but may be polished up to 3500 grit for maxiumum sheen before the burnishing stage.

Polished & Sealed

Polished & Sealed

Once the desired polishing grit is achived, the floor may be guarded with a topical seal or a pepentrating sealer for floor protection. Burnishing topical sealer will enhance the color and sheen of the concrete. On this floor penetrating sealer was applied to support hot tire traffic.
